I was thinking about getting a personal trainer – we have a Fitness Together Club RIGHT by my house. Does anyone know what they charge – just approximately? I just don't want to go in without having a small clue of what they would charge me. Essentially — I believe its regular training rates – between $60-85/hr. I was thinking of trying it 3x a week – but I think 1x will have to do it.

I always felt curious whether it is safe to pursue a fitness career in big mega fitness centres. However I always heard of rumours that if you can't hit personal training sales target, you will be out. . I have only work in small fitness clubs, and I have the necessary certification in fitness instructing and personal training. Perhaps, can someone here also share with me the success feature of working as a personal trainer in big mega gyms. . . From what I can tell… I've worked at a couple of these mega gyms. I can tell you with all honesty that you are better off in small fitness clubs (which is what I'm doing now). While there are more potential clients in a larger franchise like Bally Total Fitness or LA Fitness, there is likewise more pressure to sell training. And yes, many gyms do require you to hit a certain sales quota; thus, personal training becomes more about being a sales person and less about giving people what they actually need. Moreover, the competition between trainers (who are working for measly pay most of the time anyway) gets fierce. I got out of the larger franchises for this reason and run my own business now, and also work through a local smaller fitness club. And, I'm a 100 times happier.

So I was wondering what you guys think. I wanted some advice on how I could start this up, promote it, and eventually a little advice on how to run it (I already have a good idea, as fitness and nutrition are two of my favorite subjects). Also, If anyone has a successful fitness club, please share how it runs. Thanks everyone. Essentially — I think it's a good idea. Most kids in school now don't get nearly the exercise they need to stay fit. I'd start with asking other people what they think of your idea and notice how many would be interested in such a program. Then go to the board with your ideas but make sure you have all the info you need first, such as how much it would cost to implement such a program and how many students would often participate in it , school boards often know if it will be worth they're while to fund something like this) Also stress the importance of fitness and nutrition in the schools do some research on statistics so you can really make your point. If they balk on money issues try pitching fund raising ideas like car washes etc to help raise the money needed. Getting the board on your side is key. And don't give up on your idea get teachers students counselers etc on your side and start brain storming with them give them a chance ot have lot of input so they feel like they're a big part of it too.
