I know the combination is important. But for weight loss – if you don't change your eating habits at all, but start exercising, the speed of the weight loss is much slower then when you're dieting, but not exercising at all. This leads me o believe that diet is more important. . What do you think. After speaking to others on the web, I found the answer. Diet is much more important. Running for half an hour will burn about 300 calories- that's a mars bar, why not only not eat the mars bar? The best combination is a diet with lots of exercise, for weight loss and overall fitness.

Write down everything you eat in a food journal, and record the number of calories in everything. Don't go over 1200 if trying to lose weight, 1500 if trying to maintain. Most people are surprised at how much they actually eat once they write it down.

I had to give up running two years ago due to plantar fasciitis. Since then I have continued to bike, swim, and (occasionally) lift weights, and walk (as permitted by the fasciitis). However I feel less fit and I notice that I am spending more sedentary time. Any suggestions that don't involve spending money (my debt load is already quite sufficient).
